Questions people ask
Do I need a referral?
After an operation we work from your surgeon's written orders. For a problem that did not need surgery, your plan decides whether it asks for a referral, and the front desk checks before your first visit.
Does my plan cover this, and do you take Medicare?
We bill many kinds of plans, including most PPO plans, Medicare Part B, Medicaid, workers' compensation and auto injury coverage. Your plan decides what it pays. We check your benefits and call you before your first visit.
What if I pay myself?
We give you a written estimate before your first visit, and you pay on the day of each visit. If your plan may reimburse you, we give you an itemized receipt to send in.
How long is a visit, and who treats me?
The first visit is about an hour, and later visits are shorter. A physical therapist examines you and treats you at every visit.
How many visits will I need?
Your surgeon's orders, how the hand responds and what your hands must do each day decide it. We tell you what we expect at each visit, and we do not promise a number.
What should I wear and bring?
A short-sleeved shirt, or sleeves that push up past the elbow, and no rings on the affected hand. Bring your plan card, your surgeon's orders, imaging reports if you have them and any splint or sling you wear.
Will it hurt?
A hand that has been hurt or operated on can be tender. We tell you what we are about to do, work within what you can tolerate and stop when you say stop.
Can I have visits by video?
Some follow-up visits can be by video for people in Oklahoma, where our therapists are licensed. Splint fitting and the hands-on exam happen in the clinic.
Do you treat work or auto injuries?
Yes. If you were hurt at work or in a crash, get emergency care first. Tell us who your adjuster is. Your state decides who may direct your care. We explain how your bills are handled before you start.
What is a certified hand therapist?
A licensed therapist who has passed the examination of the Hand Therapy Certification Commission, the independent body that awards the CHT letters. It is not a state license, and not every therapist who treats hands holds it.
