Hand, wrist and elbow

Hand, wrist and elbow

Stiffness, overuse and healed injuries in the arm below the shoulder. Many people come after a fall onto an outstretched hand, a fracture that has healed or a long time in a cast.

This care is for you if

  • A fracture has healed, and the hand does not move as it did

  • A cast or splint just came off

  • Pain or weakness gets in the way of everyday tasks

  • Typing, lifting or gripping aggravates the wrist or elbow

What to know before you come

  • What a visit looks like

A first visit is about an hour. We ask what the hand does all day, examine the hand, wrist, elbow and neck, and show you the first things to do at home.

  • What we do

We guide movement back, add strength as the tissue allows, make a splint when one helps, and change the tasks that aggravate the arm so you can keep doing them.

  • What decides how many visits

What the exam finds, how long the problem has lasted, what the arm must do and how it responds. We tell you what we expect at each visit, and we do not promise a number.

  • Who treats you

A physical therapist from our three: Lynn Hartman, Darrell Pickett or Nare Tashjian. Every name carries its Oklahoma license, and the letters after our names are on the team page.

  • How it is paid for

Your plan or you pay, the same as other therapy. How fees work explains each, and the front desk goes through yours before you come in.

  • When to see a doctor first

See a doctor first after a fall or blow if the hand is badly swollen, crooked or cannot move. Call 911 if you have chest pain or trouble breathing.

Questions about hand, wrist and elbow

Do I need an X-ray first?

Not always. If your exam suggests a break or another cause we do not treat, we send you to a physician first.

Can you treat tennis or golfer's elbow?

We treat overuse around the elbow by changing how the arm is loaded, and we explain what we are doing and why.

What about my job?

Tell us what your hands do at work. We plan around it, and we write to your employer or doctor if you ask us to.

Hand or arm not working as it should?

Book a first visit, or call and describe what the hand does.
